Teen Book Review: The Young Elites

The Young Elites review by  JK:

The novel The Young Elites by Marie Lu is a very good book to read if you are interested in fantasy. I would highly recommend this book to young adults.

This novel follows the journey of a very special blood fever survivor. The blood fever was a deadly illness and most adults died including many children. But some children survived and came out of the illness with strange markings and scars, These markings and scars earned the children the name "malfetto."A malfetto is shamed, but some are also very valuable seeing as how some select malfettos were gifted with special abilities. These malfettos created the Dagger Society, they protected malfettos and recruited those who had useful abilities. The King wants all malfettos dead regardless. So, he organizes the Inquisition, they hunt malfettos and protect the royal family.

This book follows Adelina Amouteru who is a special malfetto with the ability to create illusions and manipulate vision. Adelina fights with the Dagger Society to overthrow the Inquisition along with the King and the royal family. Adelina has been pushed around her whole life, especially by her father who believed she was useless and hated her. Because of this, Adelina has a thirst for revenge. She wants to hurt all of the people who have hurt and shamed her.

This starts with her father, who she accidentally kills when she first uses her powers to their full extent. If you like twists and turns, you will love The Young Elites by Marie Lu.

The threat is soon forgotten, though, when Hux, the ice blue dragon, comes to Artimé bearing the h...

8 YA BOOK CLUB BOOKS TO READ FOR GREAT DISCUSSIONS

Alice Nuttall   Sep 5, 2023 B ook clubs aren’t just a way to enjoy reading and branch out by trying books you wouldn’t have picked for yourself — they’re also a great way to get into discussions of multiple different subjects inspired by the reading you’ve done together. While book clubs can be beneficial to people of all ages, they can be a particularly helpful place for teens to engage with new ideas, put their opinions forward, and take part in friendly discussions about everything from social issues to the writing process. I’ve been in a few book clubs over the years, and while I certainly haven’t loved everything I’ve read as part of them, it definitely led me to YA book club books I otherwise would never have tried and got me looking at a whole range of different perspectives. School is back in session for the autumn, and whether you’re an educator yourself or just want to help the teens in your life discover new books, a YA book club is a great way to get young people engage...
