Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce recently released the honorees getting their Stars on the Walk of Fame in 2012. Some of those honored this year are:

Jennifer Aniston
Scarlett Johansson
Kate Winslet
Valerie Bertinelli
Matt Groening (creator of "The Simpsons")
Jennifer Lopez

There are five categories a person can get a star for: Motion Pictures, Broadcast Television, Music, Radio, and Theatre. A few excpetions have been made over the years. Neal Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins all have a moon shaped star in honor of the first Moon landing. Muhammad Ali and Magic Johnson both have stars as well. Only one person has a star in all five categories and that's Gene Autry.

In order to get a star, you must be nominated and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce picks the honorees from that list. There are two caveats: you must attend a public presentation for the unveiling of your star and there is a fee for the upkeep of the star.
