Farmingdale Library Teens

Launched in 2010 by “So You Think You Can Dance” co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity. Each year DFF creates instructional dance videos for people to learn and perform dance routines and share them with others as part of NDD. Created by favorite “So You Think You Can Dance” choreographers and featuring “So You Think You Can Dance” Alumni, our videos represent a range of dance abilities ensuring everyone can take part. At  this year's Anime Expo, VIZ Media announced a number of upcoming manga to be published in 2016 including Masashi Kisimoto’s sequel to his Naruto  manga,  Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring , a one-volume saga set shortly after the final chapter of the  Naruto  manga and serves as a prequel of sorts for the next  Naruto  movie. Other shonen titles announced for 2016 include a full color edition of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Freeza Arc , and School Judgment: Gakkyu Hotel .  In addition VIZ announced two new  shojo  manga  Shuriken and Pleats , the latest series from Matsuri Hino, creator of  Vampire Knight , as well as  Behind the Scenes , a new manga from Bisco Hatori, the creator of the  Ouran High School Host Club . Today starts week one of our Summer Reading Club. In order to join, you need to come to the library with your library card and we'll give you a packet. After that, you check in with us once a week with what you've read and get a prize just for reading. Are you stumped on what to read? Here are a few sites with great book titles to help you out: Teen Reads created the Ultimate Reading List for all teens. They update the list constantly as new books come in. There are plenty of books here to find! New York Libraries has created a list of great teen reads and has book trailers on the site as well. The National Endowment for the Humanities  has a list of summertime classic favorites that they feel have stood the test of time. There are plenty of other sites out there for book recommendations or you can stop in and ask for some!

Calling all budding humorists: we want you to make us laugh! Studio 360 and the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are looking for humor writing by students who are about to start high school, in high school, or spring graduates. Your writing can take any form — text, video, or audio. The writer and actor BJ Novak  will pick a winner on the show. Here's your assignment  —  your piece must begin and end with these sentences: FIRST LINE: The sun rose and everything fell. LAST LINE: Alex stared at the door handle and slowly turned the knob.
