8 HEARTFELT YA BOOKS FEATURING CHARACTERS WITH ANXIETY

by  Megan Mabee   Jul 28, 2023 Over the past couple of years, mental health has become a much more frequent topic of conversation. It’s refreshing to find more people discussing mental health with honesty, vulnerability, thoughtfulness, and care. While we still have a ways to go as a society, I’m thankful for how much visibility mental health has now and how the stigma surrounding mental health has lessened. The more people talk about mental health conditions like anxiety, the more the stigma will erode and people will feel less alone in their experiences. When it comes to anxiety, there are a number of resources available to help teens and young adults, from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s online resource center for anxiety to Teen Line, The Youth Mental Health Project, and more. Another Rioter created this handy guide to workbooks and books about anxiety as well. Fiction books featuring characters navigating mental health conditions like anxiety can also

PORTABLE READING DELIGHTS: SUMMER 2023 YA PAPERBACK RELEASES

Kelly  Jensen   July 7, 2023   I love a good YA paperback, so I’m really excited to see such a wonderful assortment of 2023 summer YA paperbacks. I know I said this last season, but it is worth repeating again: what I don’t love about paperbacks, though, is their rising costs.  It’s becoming too clear that even the “cheaper” option for buying books is becoming untenable for so many, especially teenagers. That said, it is not the fault of the author for price increases, and thus, it’s still important to highlight and champion these books. This roster of summer 2023 YA paperback books is good, y’all. Find below some of the most exciting YA paperbacks hitting shelves this winter. Because of the paper sourcing challenges still impacting publishing, some of these dates may shift or change, but this is the closest to accurate as possible, per publishing catalog information. Some of these books are paperback originals, meaning they’ll only ever release in paperback, while others are first rel

8 YA BOOKS WITH SUMMER VIBES

Nikki Demarco July 12, 2023  The best season has begun. School’s out and summer is fully upon us. I know people generally think about reading a good book curled under a blanket, warm mug of hot chocolate, and rain softly falling outside for the perfect soothing sound background. I want to argue for summer reading! Yes, of course, reading on the beach is ideal, but not all of us have easy access to beaches. Or want to get sand between the pages of our next favorite read. Summer reading outside under the shade of a tree on a blanket is underrated. If you want to take it to the next level, hang a portable hammock under that tree and sway in the breeze while reading. The great thing about reading in the summer is that it’s a sitting still activity. You won’t overheat quickly and still get to enjoy the outdoors. Or if you live in a place where that’s unthinkable because it’s scorching outside, reading in the air conditioning or under the ceiling fan is also a still activity. It won’t make y

Part Two! AUGUST 1 THE BEWITCHING HOUR  BY ASHLEY POSTON* Tara Maclay isn’t thrilled to be starting her senior year of high school in a new town. But if she can just keep her head down, then  maybe  she can make it through this year in Hellborne, Vermont without the town living up to its name. Of course, her plan falls apart immediately, as dead students start turning up around her, and she’s suddenly voted Most Likely To Have Murdered Them by the rest of the senior class. Oh, and the fellow new girl Tara’s crushing on? Turns out to be a witch-hunter. …So maybe it’s not the  worst  thing that Tara’s magic is majorly malfunctioning. As the body count rises, Tara has to overcome her fears, reconnect with her magic, and cast herself in a more central role to save the town — even if it means putting her new relationship at risk. GUARDIANS OF THE DAWN: ZHARA  BY S. JAE-JONES* Magic flickers. Love flames. Chaos reigns. Magic is forbidden throughout the Morning Realms. Magicians are called a
