The National Book Award finalists for the Young People’s
Literature category were announced October 15, whittled down to five from last
month’s announcement of ten contenders from the longlist. The longlists and
finalists were each chosen by a panel of five writers and literary experts.
The winners will be announced on November 19.
The five finalist titles are:
Steve Sheinkin, The Port Chicago 50: Disaster, Mutiny, and
the Fight for Civil Rights
John Corey Whaley, Noggin
Deborah Wiles, Revolution: The Sixties Trilogy, Book Two
Jacqueline Woodson, Brown Girl Dreaming
Eliot Schrefer, Threatened
